Spinner Dolphins are one of the treasures of the island of Lana'i in Hawaii. Spinner Dolphins can, often, be seen frolicking in front of the Four Seasons Resort Lana'i at Manele Bay. The resort, actually, sits on Hulopo'e Bay which is a marine preserve. Motorized marine craft are not allowed in the bay... which makes it a pristine snorkling spot! When the dolphins come into the bay... it is a resting time for them. Unfortunately, many swimmers do not understand that trying to "swim with the dolphins" can disturb the dolphins normal rest patterns and can be, potential, illegal as well. When visiting Lana'i, please respect the Spinner Dolphins rest period in Hulopo'e Bay by not trying to approach them for a "close encounter". For detailed information about the Spinner Dolphin... visit the NOAA Fisheries Office of Protected Resources. We are just starting a whole new section of images featuring the Spinner Dolphins that perform their acrobatic stunts in Hulopo'e Bay on the island of Lana'i. Jumping dolphin shots are taken, from the beach, with a Canon 500mm IS lens with a 1.4 extender. Click on the thumbnail images below for larger views and order information. New prints and posters will be added soon!
